Star Shield: Fire Spirit

When he is activated, the rules say to put the Fire Spirit and 1 Fire token in Space 60. At each Sunrise, 2-4 new Fire tokens must be added (depending on player count).
1. Are the new tokens always placed in the next available space counting down from Space 60, including any spaces which had a fire at the start of the previous day but are now empty?
For example, in a 3-player game:
On the day the Spirit is activated, there is only 1 token on space 60
At Sunrise of the next day, place 3 new tokens on Spaces 59, 58, 57. On that day, a hero extinguishes a fire in Space 58
On the following day, would the tokens be placed on 56, 55, 54, or on 58, 56, 55?
2. I think the reference manual mentions that if a space is occupied by a Hero when a fire token is placed there at Sunrise, the fire is immediately extinguished (returned to the reserve) and the hero loses 4 Willpower Points. If several heroes occupy the space, do they lose 4 Willpower each?
3. May not the heroes bypass the trail of fires in 59, 58, 57 etc. to attack the Fire Spirit, simply by moving through Spaces 61 and 62? By that route, heroes would be burned only once, on the turn they enter Space 60 (the first hero to enter that space), before attacking the Spirit.
